Kids Club Update and ONLINE Payments! (sent on 11-17-16)

posted Jan 25, 2017, 11:15 AM by Traci Peterson

Dear Kids Club Families~

We are pleased to announce that starting December 1st, we will be accepting online payments (using credit or debit cards) through the “Q” System at PUSD!  We will pilot this online process for the District through the Kids Club Programs.  Please watch our brief VIDEO of how easy and convenient the online process is for our families!

Below, we provide general information:

  • For the pilot, there is a 2.11% transaction charge for each online payment.  For $482, the 2.11% is equal to $10.17 = $492.17 total, and for $575, it is $12.13 = $587.13 total.  The transaction charge may change after the pilot.

  • You will receive an email at the end of each month with the new charge in your account.

  • The District will not be storing any of your personal credit/debit card information on the system, so auto-payments are not an option at this time.

  • This is completely voluntary - you may still pay by a personal check, cashier’s check, or money order if you would like.

If you have not already logged into your Q account as a parent, please contact your school secretary.  Your PIN and Password would be the same as it was for the online registration process.

Finally, remember that you can update your account on the Q system whenever there is a change - this includes email addresses, phone numbers, or any other relevant information.

Thank you so much and have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  Be on the lookout for your end of month email from us!

Kids Club Update - NEW SITE CELL PHONES (posted June 15, 2015)

posted Jun 15, 2015, 2:52 PM by Traci Peterson

Welcome to Summer, Families!  Here is our latest update:

New Kids Club Cell Phones!

We are thrilled to announce that each site will now have a cell phone for sending and receiving text messages!  Since this will be new to all of us, we are going to have a pilot for the first month of Summer (June 15-July 15).  We will re-evaulate how it's working after that time.  We do ask however, that you keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • IMPORTANT:  The cell phone should not take the place of the main KC site phone

    • Always call the main KC site phone first.

  • You can text the KC cell phone anytime.

    • Kids Club staff will always respond to a text.  If texting during the time KC is closed, your text will be received and answered the next business day.

  • If responding to a group text from the Kids Club site, be aware of replying to ALL.

  • If you cannot get through on the main KC site phone and/or we have not responded to your text, you can call the KC cell phone.

We will still send email updates regarding field trips, the program, important items, etc. If you are interested in receiving group texts however, please text the Kids Club phone from your cell phone with your name and your child's name, and we will add you to the group list.

Kids Club Student Surveys
We have completed our Student Surveys for this year!  The students took an electronic version of the student questionnaire on the Kids Club  Chromebooks like last year.  Here is what the students had to say this year:

Things I like about Kids Club:

  • "The teachers, my friends, and snack."
  • "That it is super fun and I meet lots of new friends."
  • "Polly Pockets are my favorite!  I also like to eat snack and I like to play outside."
  • "I like to use the Chrome books and we have more now so we can use them more."
  • "I love BizWorld!  We just named our company and made our design!  It is so fun."
  • "It has enough games for everyone to play with and I have a lot of friends here."
  • "I like that the teachers are entertaining and they will play with you and help you, when needed."
  • "I like all of the options they have inside and outside of the building."
  • "That you get to see your friends and they help you learn."
  • "That no one is excluded."
  • "This is the best place I could go after school."
Things I wish I could change about Kids Club:
  • "Stay at the pool for 1,000,000,000,000 years."
  • "I wish we could bring pets to Kids Club."
  • "That everyone in Kids Club could use computers at the same time."
  • "I would like more play houses to use."
  • "More art projects."
  • "Field trips during the school year."
  • "More race cars."
  • "You did not have to do your homework."
  • "Get a trampoline."
  • "I wish we could still open up outside on rainy days."
We appreciate every student's input!  The sites have already been discussing how to utilize the survey results at Kids Club!

REMINDER:  Starting July 1, our fees will be annualized.

This means that you will pay the SAME amount every month throughout the year.

·  For students going into 1st-5th grade, the fees will be $482 per month.

·  For students going into Kindergarten, the fees will be $575 per month.

**All of this information is also available on our website at kidsclub.pleasantonusd.net.

Thanks so much and looking forward to a great summer!

Kids Club Fee Structure CHANGE - IMPORTANT (posted on 4-20-15)

posted Apr 20, 2015, 3:49 PM by Traci Peterson

Good afternoon, families!

As you know from our last Kids Club update on February 4th, we surveyed our families to determine if a fee structure change would be beneficial for our families.  The overwhelming response was "Yes," and we received 359 responses!

We have also discussed this item with our newly developed Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), and they approved this change as well.

Starting July 1, 2015, our fees will be annualized.

This means that you will pay the SAME amount every month throughout the year.

·  For students going into 1st-5th grade, the fees will be $482 per month.

·  For students going into Kindergarten, the fees will be $575 per month.

We also have additional information regarding the process that we wanted you to know:

1.     We have included a Fee Comparison sheet for comparable before and after school programs in the area for your review.

2.     There were a lot of questions about 5th grade students.  For this year, the 5th grade students will be charged a prorated $425 fee for the two weeks in June that they will be attending.  After this, the 5th grade students will be prorated at the $482 per month rate.  Since we are a year round program, and ask for continual enrollment, these fees will even out for our students over the time that they are in our program.

If you have any questions, please talk with your Site Supervisor or our Program Director, Traci Peterson, tpeterson@pleasantonusd.net.

Thank you for your continued support!

Kids Club UPDATE - Important Fee Survey and More! (posted on 2-4-15)

posted Feb 4, 2015, 7:38 PM by Traci Peterson   [ updated Feb 4, 2015, 7:39 PM ]

Happy 2015, Kids Club Families!

We are so excited for this year, and here is the latest news from Kids Club:

Kids Club Fee Structure Change?  We need your INPUT!

Over the last several years, we have heard concerns about the additional cost for the summer months of our program.  In response to these concerns, we would like to explore the idea of annualizing the fees, so that each monthly fee is the same.  We would do this by adding up one year's worth of fees and dividing by 12.  For example:

School Year 2015-2016

Currently (for 1st-5th grade students)

$425/month for September-May

$650/month for June, July, and August

Annualized

$481.25/month for all 12 months (likely rounded up)

Currently (for Kindergarten students)

$550/month for September-May

$650/month for June, July, and August

Annualized

$575/month for all 12 months

What do you think of this idea?  Please take this quick two-question survey by Friday, February 13th:  see Site Supervisor for survey link

Next steps:  Once we receive your feedback, we will consider the next steps.  No changes would take place until July 1, 2015.

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

Calling all families - we need YOU!  We are looking for two to three parents from each site to create one Kids Club Parent Advisory Committee.

What is a Parent Advisory Committee?  The PAC provides a mechanism to facilitate parent involvement in the successful operation of the Kids Club programs.   The purpose of the PAC is to support Kids Club staff in meeting the goals and objectives of our program's philosophy.  We would meet 2-3 times per year on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30pm (child care will be provided).  We would really appreciate a parent's perspective on new ideas we have!

If you are interested in participating, please email our Program Director, Traci Peterson at tpeterson@pleasantonusd.net.

Survey Time Again at Kids Club!

It is that time of year again when we will be surveying both our students and our staff about the Kids Club program.  For our goal of continuous improvement, we like to hear from those that are directly involved in the day-to-day activities in our program

This year's survey will again include questions like:

·  Do you have friends at Kids Club?

·  Do the staff have time to help you if you have a problem?

·  Are there enough things here to use so that everyone gets a turn?

·  What do you like best about Kids Club?

·  What do you wish you could change about Kids Club?

The survey was adapted from a tool created by the National AfterSchool Association from their Assessing School Age Quality program.

That's the news for now.  Wishing you all a wonderful year full of health, hope, and happiness!

Kids Club Update (posted on Monday, May 12, 2014)

posted May 12, 2014, 3:22 PM by Traci Peterson   [ updated May 15, 2014, 4:19 PM ]

Site Supervisors Recognized at Board Meeting
Amanda, Tammy, Roxanne, Cindy, Danielle, and Sue (from the KC Office) were honored at the January Board meeting for their INCREDIBLE work they did in making the expansion of the Kids Club programs at all five sites successful last summer.  They were given a CSEA Service Award.   Congratulations to all of them!

Revised Kids Club Parent Handbook
After a year of meetings and planning, we are proud to present the newly revised Kids Club Parent Handbook.  ALL families will be receiving a hard copy at their site's Summer Signing.  It will also be available on the website at any time.  The Parent Handbook Committee gave great input.  Some of the revisions include:
  • A completely new look with photos of our students.
  • Better organization so you can find what you need.
  • More details about what happens at the Kids Club Program!
  • Information for families with children that have allergies or chronic health conditions.
  • Policies that are outlined in greater detail.
  • A new Progressive Discipline section that ensures parents and staff working together for the expectations of our students.

Student Survey Results
We are almost done with our Student Surveys!  The students have been taking an electronic version of the student questionnaire on the Kids Club  Chromebooks.  A BIG Thank You to our older students that helped the younger students with the process!  Here are some of the highlights...

Things I like about Kids Club:
  • "The best part about being here is the people here are nice and there are lots of things to do."
  • "I can do coding on the Chromebooks with my friends."
  • "I like that my friends are here and the teachers make me laugh."
  • "The thing I like the best about Kids Club is how they are super big on safety.  For example they have shirts that we wear on field trips so they know where we are at all times."
  • "I like the fact that you can play with anyone you like, no matter if it's a first grader or a fifth grader."
  • "I have lots of friends and people who care for me."
  • "I just love it here."
Things I wish I could change about Kids Club:
  • "I wish for snack you could have an all you can eat buffet."
  • "More time outside."
  • "I would like a bigger cubbie."
  • "That we could get a pet cat."
  • "More and better toys for the older kids."
  • "I want kids to be more fair."
  • I would change snack.  Whenever my someone picks me up around 5:00, all I wanna do is go home and eat SOMETHING!!  McDonald's is looking pretty good around that time.  How about some cheese and crackers?"
We appreciate everyone's input, and each site will talk about new ideas together.  Can't wait to see what they say next year :)

Community Service Project Update
In the last update, we told you that our students would be participating in projects that help our community.    To date, our sites have:
  • Put labels in books donated by the Pleasanton Rotary Club for the Pleasanton Library
  • Made blankets for Project Linus - for critically ill children in hospitals
  • Made placemats for the Open Heart Kitchen Holiday Dinner
  • Donated gently used books to Half Price Books for students who can't afford books
  • Made centerpieces for the Pleasanton Senior Center's Valentine Luncheon
  • Created "Get Well" and "Feel Better Soon" cards for patients at the Children's Hospital in Oakland.  The cards were placed on their food tray for lunch or dinner.
We are so proud of our students for helping the community, and hope that they felt great about the experiences they had!

Summer Staff Update
At this time of year, we always have transitions with our staff.  For a list of your site's current staff members, check out their site's page on our website:  http://kidsclub.pleasantonusd.net.  Be sure to check back at the end of June to see the new Summer Staff!  Your individual site will send you updates about staff as they happen.

Finally, one last reminder that June fees are now $650, and ALL fees must be paid in FULL by Wednesday, June 4th.  If you pay after June 4th, we will need payment by a Cashier's Check or Money Order.

That's the news for now.  Have a great summer, everyone!

Kids Club Update (posted on January 13, 2014)

posted Jan 22, 2014, 10:52 AM by Traci Peterson

Happy New Year, Kids Club Families!

Great things happened at Kids Club last year, and we are excited for more great things to come in 2014!  Here's our latest update:

June ONLY Fee Increase
The PUSD Board of Trustees approved an increase for June's Kids Club fee.  Starting June 1, 2014, the June fee will be $650 (like the July and August fees).

The great news is that this fee increase will include new additions to our Summer Program for our families:
  • We will be returning to the Pleasanton Aquatic Center (PAC) this year, and this fee will include 8 visits and transportation for every student enrolled in our program.  In the past, the parents had to pay an additional fee for their child to participate in this activity.
  • Each student will receive a Kids Club field trip t-shirt every Summer.
  • This will help offset the costs for the June field trips, activities, additional staffing and facility costs for the full days.
If you have any questions regarding this increase, please talk with your Site Supervisor or you can email Traci Peterson, Program Director at tpeterson@pleasantonusd.net.

**Outgoing 5th grade students will be prorated at $425/month since they will not be in attendance for the summer program.

Student Surveys at Kids Club!
All of our Kids Club students will be participating in a Student Survey asking them about our Program.  It will include questions like:
  • Do you like it here?
  • Do you get enough to eat here?
  • Do you have enough time and space to complete your homework?
  • Are the teachers friendly?
  • Do staff listen to what you want to do and help to make it happen?
The survey was created by the National AfterSchool Association from their Assessing School Age Quality tool.  The purpose of the survey is two-fold.

First, we care about what the students think about Kids Club, after all, it is for them!  Secondly, the survey will be administered on the computer and will help our students practice for the Smarter Balanced Assessments coming next school year which are also administered on the computer.  We will share the results of our Student Survey in the next update.

Community Service Projects
Last year, one of our Kids Club programs piloted a Community Service Project with the Rotary Club of Pleasanton and the Pleasanton Library.  It was a huge success!  In order to contribute to PUSD's Strategic Plan, each site will participate in a Community Service Project for the next three years.  If you have any ideas or resources that would help us plan these projects, please let your Site Supervisor know!

That's the news for now.  Wishing you all a wonderful year full of health, hope, and happiness!

Kids Club Update (posted on August 23, 2013)

posted Aug 28, 2013, 2:14 PM by Traci Peterson   [ updated Apr 11, 2014, 3:01 PM ]

It is time for another Kids Club Update!

Summer Program and Online Evaluation (we want your feedback!)
Today is the LAST day of the Kids Club Summer Program!  We had such a great time this year with our STEM projects, various Field Trips, and onsite activities, it's difficult to believe it is already over.  As Summer comes to an end, we say good-bye to the many college students that come and work with our PUSD students each summer.  We couldn't do it without them and wish them success in their college careers this year!

We are trying something new this year, and would like you to complete a 5 question Summer Evaluation about your child's experience at Kids Club this Summer.  Any ideas or suggestions will be used to plan next year's Summer Program.  Thank you in advance for your participation!

**If you need the link to the online Summer Evaluation, please contact your site's Kids Club staff.  Thanks!

Staff Update and Kids Club Website
Each year when summer comes to an end, it brings about staff changes.  For the most recent information on your site's staff, please visit our website at:

Even if you know your staff, visit it anyway!  There is a lot of great information available to you.

After School Activity Release
In past years, if your child attended an After School Activity, they had an option of not returning to Kids Club.  We have now updated the After School Activity form for our families.  In reviewing our policies for the Updated Kids Club Parent Handbook (to be released this Fall), we realized that we have not been enforcing the current Kids Club and Community Care Licensing policy.  From this point forward, if your child attends an activity after checking into Kids Club, they will have to return to Kids Club to be properly signed out.  The other options are signing out the student and then picking them up from the activity or having the Activity Leader come and sign them out of our program using one of the Orange Forms (Pick Up Authorization).  If you have any questions about this, please see your Site Supervisor.

We have attached both forms as fillable PDF's if you need to fill one out immediately.  Otherwise, they will be available at each site.

That's all for now.  Thanks so much and have a great school year!
